What did you sow or plant out today ... 2018
« on: January 11, 2018, 07:42:47 PM »
First sweet and mild peppers are seeded and transplanted
First seeding was half December and are transplanted second seeding was last week and the first start germinating
purple label means that the variety didn't germinate proper and has to be seeded again (a lot this year)
Purple Pegs are the (to hot for me to use) hotter peppers I grow
New to try Capsicum Wieser Milder (1452)
Seems a perfect one to make ground sweet pepper powder

Testing coco-pellets
4 - 2,8 cm coco-pellets in a P7 vacuum pot
covered with 3 mm vermiculite
Without a Peg are sweet peppers
Green - sweet up to 100 Scoville
Yellow - to 1000 scoville
Orange - mild
Red - Hot
Purple - to hot for me in the moment  %%%

Impressive as always Roland.

Pleased that some of the old melon seeds I sowed germinated. They got planted in the melon patch which now contains Charentais, Green Bosnian, Lunéville, Piel de sapo and Sweet Freckles.
Ray, gardening on an old flood plain with clay loam from 30 to 60 cm deep over clay.

Have to seed the melons also in 3 months Ray
Last year all young plants rotted when I wasn't home
Probably to wet and cold in the poly-tunnel

Tomatoes seeding in 6 weeks , sorting out the seeds next week when we get again 4 days rain  ^^11^^

Seems that the vermiculite layer must be a little thicker for the Capsicum and pepper seeds
some plants are pushing them self out of the pot (don't root in the coco-pellet)

I’m away at the moment but still gardening where I’m staying. Sowed a small cover crop of mung beans and a few ordinary green beans, just called Snap Bean I think. I think I’ll sow the rest of the packet as they’ve just gone out of date. They’ve got chicory growing which nobody seems to eat so I might replace it with some lettuce. I picked up some bales of lucerne for mulch and it looks like I’ll have use it quick smart. This morning I discovered a roo chomping happily into the bales!
